Feel Good Stories is the Reading Room’s pause button: a collection of true, uplifting stories about kindness, creativity, clever ideas and people quietly making the world a better place.

About this collection

Why feel-good non-fiction improves reading

True stories exercise different reading skills from fiction. Informational texts about wildlife, animal crossings and new technology introduce topic vocabulary from science, geography and engineering, helping children build the academic vocabulary they need for comprehension.

Readers also practise finding facts, identifying main ideas, sequencing real events and separating important information from detail. Because these stories describe genuine problems and solutions, they naturally encourage cause-and-effect reasoning and critical thinking.
