Welcome to Grade R in our multi-award-winning online school, an exciting and formative year in your child’s early education!

We’ve got a programme that turns the ‘three Rs’ into the three Es: Exciting, Engaging, and Extraordinary! Aligned with the South African CAPS curriculum, our Grade R programme is designed to introduce young learners to the basics of education, focusing on early literacy, numeracy, and life skills. This year is all about laying the groundwork for a lifelong love of learning in a fun and engaging way. Get ready for a year so fun, your little ninjas in training will actually want to do their homework!

Curriculum overview

Early Literacy

  • Focus: Introduction to alphabets, phonetic awareness and basic pre-reading skills.
  • Activities: Alphabet games, phonics songs, storytelling sessions and simple reading exercises.

Basic Numeracy

  • Focus: Number recognition, counting, basic shapes and introduction to measurements.
  • Activities: Counting games, shape identification, basic sorting tasks and introductory measurement exercises.

Life Skills

  • Focus: Social and emotional development, basic motor skills, environmental awareness, and creative expression.
  • Activities: Interactive social games, motor skill exercises, nature exploration activities and arts and crafts.

Preparation for Grade R

  • Encourage the exploration of letters and numbers through playful activities.
  • Set up a child-friendly learning space that stimulates curiosity and creativity.
  • Foster a routine that includes plenty of time for play and rest.

Feel free to join us all year round! You will still receive access to the full year’s content regardless of when in the year you enrol.
