Prerequisites
No prior grades are required to qualify to take the GED test. Competency in English comprehension is highly recommended and requires preparation in order to comprehend and interpret various written passages. The social studies portion of the exam requires you to answer a broad range of questions about US history, world history, government, geography and economics. This course will help you fill the gaps to ensure you can read and interpret charts, graphs and maps as this comprises a significant portion of the exam. The science portion of the test also requires you to read passages and answer questions that demonstrate that you understand basic scientific concepts. The Maths portion of the GED test can be challenging but this course will bring you up to speed with the mathematical competencies you need to pass your GED test.
Target audience
The GED is a credential that can substitute for a high school diploma. This course is therefore ideal for anyone who would like to graduate from high school and possibly enter the workplace or a college. Having a GED diploma will open up more doors for you in the future. Students need to be 17 years or older to write the final GED tests but can register before to prepare for the test. Online GED® Subjects
The GED exam comprises of four subjects, written as individual exams: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. The exams do not have to be written at the same time but can be written at your own pace.
The online GED mathematics course covers measurements, equations, and applying Math concepts to solve real-life problems. Students will be provided with a formula sheet and therefore do not have to memorize them. Students can make use of on-screen calculators. The format of the exam is multiple choice and other question types (drag and drop, fill-in-the-blanks, select an area, and drop-down).
Topics: Basic Math, Geometry, Basic Algebra, Graphs and Functions
In this course, students will focus on improving their reading and writing skills, including grammar. In the exam, students will be required to read excerpts from a variety of informational and literary sources and show their understanding, draw conclusions, and write clearly. They will be required to analyze two passages, decide which argument has more convincing evidence and explain why the evidence supports their choice. The exam comprises of multiple choice questions and a written essay.

Students are not required to memorise dates and facts. Students are given information regarding American Social Studies and are required to interpret information including graphs and charts and use reasoning skills to draw conclusions. The exam comprises multiple choice questions and students are given access to on-screen calculators.

In this course students, will revise various scientific concepts, how to read graphs and charts, how to display scientific data, and use reasoning skills to interpret scientific information. The Science exam is not about memorization. Students will not need to memorize the periodic table of elements but will need to recognize names and symbols of key elements in answering some questions. The exam comprises multiple choice questions and students are given access to on-screen calculators.
